« Je me souviens du trajet, le jour où je suis allé récupérer ma machine à graver les vinyles.
Nous étions avec une amie en voiture, sur une petite route de Bretagne Sud. L’autoradio diffusait les infos en continu.
A un moment, la voix a commencé à parler d’un attentat à la rédaction de Charlie Hebdo à Paris.
C’était un drôle de truc de voir le paysage de la campagne défiler en entendant ça. Tellement triste que ça paraissait irréel.
Plus tard, lorsque je me suis mis à graver mes premiers vinyles, j’ai entendu des fantômes…
J’ai d’abord essayé de les faire partir en essayant de perfectionner la production, et puis finalement, voyant qu’ils étaient bien là, et qu’ils comptaient rester, j’ai décidé de les accepter, et on s’est mis à travailler ensemble. »
time on time off regroupe une sélection de l’archive inédite de Nicolas Jorio - une collection de disques vinyles gravés par lui-même, en un seul exemplaire. Cette archive a été numérisée pour la première fois à Jambes, en février 2020, en même temps qu’une soudaine chute de neige légère. "I remember the car ride on the day I went to pick up my vinyl cutter. I was driving with a friend on a small road in the south of Brittany, listening to the continuous flow of news on the radio.
At some point, we heard something about an attack on the Paris headquarters of the Charlie Hebdo magazine.
Watching the countryside lanscape pass by before our eyes while hearing this on the radio was a weird thing. So sad that it seemed unreal.
Later, when I started to cut my first vinyl records, I heard ghosts...
I first tried to get rid of them by trying to perfect the sound, and then finally, seeing that they were still there, and that they were not going away, I decided to accept them, and we started working together."
time on time off brings together a selection from the unique archive of Nicolas Jorio - a vinyl record collection, individually cut by himself, in a single edition each. The archive was digitised for the first time in Jambes in February 2020, during a sudden spell of light snow.
